-On a short distance from Wageningen and Oosterbeek located. Surroundings:A large part of the village Doorwerth consists of forests which makes the village attractive for nature lovers. Besides the beautiful nature that the village has, it also has a beautiful national monument namely Doorwerth Castle. The castle is first mentioned in 1260, when it was besieged by the Lord of Vianen and set on fire. This was probably a punishment to make short shrift with the predatory practices of Lord Berend van Dorenweerd. The following 20 years the lord of the castle or his son Hendric restored the castle. In 1435 the castle came into the possession of Reinald van Homoet and he had the castle greatly expanded. The subsequent owners rarely stayed there and this is probably one of the reasons that Doorwerth still has a very medieval appearance. That the castle survived the disaster year 1672 intact is thanks to the efforts of the then owner, Anton van Aldenburg, an important German nobleman.
Near the castle is a monumental robinia, there are several stories about this tree but it is certain that the tree is one of three; the other two were destroyed in the war, making this tree the oldest in the Netherlands. Are you interested in this apartment?
